Little Hands, Big Heart.

Hi! I'm Clara, and this is my little handmade shop.

It started with one ball of yarn and a pair of knitting needles that were probably a little too big for it.

I tried to make a small circle. It didn't really look like a circle.

But I kept trying.

Then I found out that my uncle's neighbour, Teresa, knew how to knit. She patiently taught me, stitch by stitch, and my very first project was a pair of fingerless knitted gloves.

After that, I kept practising.

I started making purses, first for myself and then for my friends. Eventually, I learned how to crochet too—and once I started making little crocheted creations, I didn't really want to stop.

One of the first things I made that people really loved was my knitted purse. Then came a little pink crocheted mushroom.

Now I make plush friends, purses, little charms, and other things that make me smile—usually at home while listening to stories.

Because everything is handmade, no two pieces are ever exactly alike.

I think that's part of what makes them special.

How Things Are Made

Everything at Hounye's Handmade Haven is made stitch by stitch, by hand.

Plush friends are carefully stuffed so they hold their shape, and seams are checked and reinforced to help make each piece sturdy and ready to be loved.

Some creations are already finished and ready to go home with you. Others can be made after you order. Those take a little more time, but you may also get to choose your favourite colours.

Every piece takes patience, practice, and lots and lots of stitches.

A Note for Parents, From a Parent

Hounye's Handmade Haven is a young maker's shop, with a grown-up beside her every step of the way.

While Clara is the maker behind the creations, all orders, emails, payments, customer communication, and pickups are managed by a parent.

For privacy and safety, orders are not picked up from our home. Pickup is arranged at an agreed public location in Whitby.

We're based in Whitby, Ontario, where local pickup is currently free.
